Buying Second-Hand Event Tickets in Colombia

Buying Second-Hand Event Tickets in Colombia

The Problem

Buying tickets from another person in Colombia is risky. When events sell out or plans change, buyers turn to social media, where scams are common and trust is low.

This happens because ticketing companies don’t support official resales, leaving buyers unprotected and exposed to fraud.

Research

Research

Before designing the solution, I validated the problem through qualitative and quantitative research.

I interviewed 20 frequent concertgoers to understand how they currently buy tickets when events sell out.

I also analyzed complaints and conversations on social media where users reported being scammed when buying second-hand tickets.

Key Insights

Reported scam rates as high as 15–20% in some online concert ticket resale markets.

55% know someone who has been scammed in an informal ticket transaction.

90% of buyers want protection more than lower prices.

44% have stopped responding to a seller due to trust red flags (fake profiles, pressure tactics, lack of information).

Trust is based on screenshots and reputation, not verification.

65% have tried to buy tickets through social media groups when an event is officially sold out.

Buyers rely heavily on social media and direct messages to purchase second-hand tickets.

95% of social media ticket buyers report a slow, frustrating purchase experience (DMs, screenshots, endless back-and-forth) combined with constant doubts about trust and ticket authenticity.

The biggest painpoint is paying and never receiving the ticket.

The Solution

I built a buyer-first ticket marketplace that guarantees entry.

Payments are held securely in-app and released only after a successful ticket transfer. If a seller can’t deliver, the buyer is automatically provided a replacement ticket.

Importing Tickets 1/2

Importing Tickets 1/2

Users can add their tickets by importing them from email: the app scans their inbox to automatically detect tickets, or by connecting their ticketing platform account.

Importing Tickets 2/2

Importing Tickets 2/2

After scanning tickets or connecting a ticketing platform account, users choose which tickets to import.

Imported tickets are set to an Available status and can be sold at the user’s discretion.

Ticket Selling Process

Once imported, users choose which tickets they want to put up for sale.
